Miniaturized, Low-voltage Power Converters with Fast Dynamic Response

This research explores a two-stage architecture that combines the strengths of switched capacitor (SC) techniques (small size, light-load performance) with the high efficiency and regulation capability of switched-mode power converters. We anticipate that this combination will result in designs that have a superior power density-efficiency tradeoff and provide a low-voltage output over a wide input voltage range with a fast dynamic response. This type of converter can be used to power logic devices in the mobile and high-performance computing markets.
