January 5, 2016

Dr. Zheng Zhang gave the 2015 Fall Term MTL Doctoral Dissertation Seminar talk on December 2nd, 2015. This honor is given to a recent PhD graduate that has used MTL's facilities or services in his or her research program at MIT.

At the DDS he presented his work titled "Uncertainty Quantification for Integrated Circuits and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems". In his talk he first explained the challenge of process variations in nano-scale chip design, and showed the promising applications of uncertainty quantification in a broad sense. Then he presented a non-sampling simulator to compute the uncertainties of stochastic nonlinear dynamic networks describing integrated circuits with process variations. Finally, he reported some advanced algorithms to simulate MEMS devices and MEMS/IC co-design problems with many process variations. His work could speed up existing circuit and MEMS simulators by 100x to 1000x for many design cases.

During his seminar, Zheng thanked Prof. Luca Daniel for his supervision, his thesis committee members Prof. Jacob White, Prof. Duane Boning (MTL core member), and Prof. George Karniadakis for their guidance, and his colleagues inside and outside of MIT for their collaborations.

A video of the seminar can be found here.

Congratulations Zheng!
