Anantha Chandrakasan, a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Associate Director of the Microsystems Technology Laboratories, was appointed as the next chair holder of the Joseph F. & Nancy P. Keithley Professorship in Electrical Engineering.
The Joseph F. & Nancy P. Keithley Professorship in Electrical Engineering was created as a career development chair and was enhanced in 1990 to a senior faculty Professorship.
"Anantha is a fitting choice for this Chair, based on his outstanding contributions in circuits and systems research, excellence in teaching and mentoring, and notable service to the department," wrote EECS professor and Associate Department Head Professor Duane Boning in his announcement to the EECS community.
Professor Chandrakasan received the B.S, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989, 1990, and 1994 respectively. Since September 1994, he has been with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, where he is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
His research interests include micro-power digital and mixed-signal integrated circuit design, wireless microsensor system design, ultra-wideband radios, and emerging technologies. He is a co-author of Low Power Digital CMOS Design and Digital Integrated Circuits and co-editor of Low Power CMOS Design and Design of High-Performance Microprocessor Circuits.
He has received several awards over the years including the 2004 DAC/ISSCC Student Design Contest Award, the Analog Devices Career Development Chair, the NSF Career Development award, the IBM Faculty Development award, and the National Semiconductor Faculty Development award.
He has served in key leadership roles for several prestigious technical conferences including the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) and the International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED). He is a Fellow of the IEEE, where he serves as an elected member of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society AdCom and is the Meetings Committee Chair.
Professor Chandrakasan's term as Keithley Chair runs from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2010.
