From markaf@MIT.EDU Tue Feb 11 00:27:04 2003 Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 00:25:26 -0500 (EST) From: Mark Alan Finlayson To: 6.050-students@MIT.EDU Subject: Required: Submission Guidelines for Homework Hi Class, I have just finished grading Pset 1. Graded problem sets will be available in class tomorrow. Here are some important clarifications to note about the electronic and paper submission policy: (1) Do not turn in files that are in any other format than TEXT format. Thus, do not turn in Microsoft Word, Excel, or Database files, or zipped, gzipped, tar'd, LZW'd, or otherwise compressed files. (2) If you attach your files to your email message, rather than including them in the body of the message, make sure to attach them in "Text/PLAIN" format, not in MIME or Binary/Hex or another format. (3) If you cannot figure out how to do #2, cut and paste your text files directly into your email. (4) Clearly label and demarcate your problems. If you do not, you risk confusing me and inadvertantly lowering your grade. Labeling means the problem number and your name at the top of each page. (5) If you are turning in handwritten homework, make sure that it is neat and understandable. Hard to read homeworks will suffer due to their incomprehensibility. (6) Please do not turn in multi-media homeworks, i.e., stick with electronic or paper, but not both. **Remember, the easiest way to help yourself do better on homeworks is to make it clear to me what exactly you are doing. Even if your answer is wrong, I can still give you partial credit if I understand your thinking! I believe the guidelines above are fairly reasonable. Therefore, future problem sets that do not follow the above guidelines are likely to be returned to their owner with a polite request to bring them into compliance. Please "help me help you" and submit your homework according to the guidelines above. Thanks! Mark p.s. Breakdown for problem set #1 is: p1 = 1 pt p2 = 5 pt p3 = 4 pt ec = 2 pt total = 10 pt total possible = 12 pt average = 8.6 stdev = 2.1 max = 12 min = 4 -------------- Mark Finlayson Teaching Assistant for 2.110J/6.050J office: 38-344c email: markaf@mit.edu phone: 617.452.2845 mobile: 617.515.0708
